Situated at 6900 feet, Steamboat offers another option for lowlanders seeking a lower base elevation. It location, about 160 miles from Denver, protects it from Front Range day-trippers, making lift lines manageable, even in peak season. The Silver Bullet Gondola – much appreciated on cold days – takes you up the mountain, where powderhounds catch the Storm Peak Express to the summit. Others will ski back to the base, on trails that wrap around the mountain, creating a longer descent and less time spent on lift lines. What Steamboat lacks in chutes and bowls, it makes up for with deep powder and scenic tree skiing routes.
