What People Say: This is the warmest most waterproof jacket I own. It’s really nice being able to wear a super warm down jacket on a wet Tahoe storm day and not worry about the down getting wet. Even on cold high-pressure days this is the jacket I reach for. One of my favorite features is the integrated powder skirt. You can snap the skirt to the pants and never worry about a windy or snowy back.

Recommendation: This is the best jacket on the market.Patagonia has again made a premier product that is waterproof, warm, and comfortable in any condition.

#2: Eider Yangra Women’s Jacket ($$)

Description: Most lightweight down jackets have a slight problem that isn’t often mentioned: down tends to get out and water tends to get in via the seams. The Eider Women’s Yangra Down Jacket handles this problem by thermally bonding the seams instead of stitching them, so that everything stays in its proper place. This feature, along with the shell’s Defender waterproof breathable laminate and DWR treatment, makes the Yangra weather-proof in any conditions.

What People Say: I just got this jacket and I love it already! It’s down-lined and waterproof and the two handwarmer pockets on the front on incredibly convenient!

Recommendation: Eider never ceases to produce a new and improved product. Not many jackets combine the warmth of down-lining, with the durability of waterproof lining. This jacket does it all, and looks good too. A high-end jacket for a consumer looking for it all, performance, comfort, warmth and style.

The fit is perfect, no too much excess material but enough room to layer underneath if needed. It is totally waterproof and the powder skirt zips out so that you can use it as just a packable rain shell for camping trips. The material is good but not quite as burly as say an Arcteryx jacket.
